NASA is headed back to the moon

I came across this article tonight from cnn.com:

NASA is headed back to the moon! I'm excited to see any news coming out of NASA at all these days, none-the-less exploratory trips to the moon! Any thoughts?

I think that the money could be used for much greater use (like helping the poor). Yes, I understand all of the good things that these trips bring us, but we still have homeless and hungry people IN EVERY CITY IN AMERICA... shouldn't we be concentrating on our own land, not the moon?

In the abstract, I totally agree with you! There are more practical and, arguably, much better uses of this money, especially for helping the poor. The problem is that helping the poor via governmental help requires political will and we've proven ourselves to not have it, at least not yet. But, maybe one day we will! Until then, the church must lead the way in helping the poor with the hope that we can inspire the people and thereby the government to join us! I never thought I'd say this but i have seen the results of the faith-based initiatives working quite well! There is hope! The Church must do a much better job of being in ministry with the poor as well!
Having said that, part of the joy of being a human being created in the image of God is the voyage of discovery. We can learn so much about what God has made via these trips, yes, but I think there is intrinsic value in exploration, of learning about what God has created and the character and nature and beauty of God. You rock, Matthew!
